Daily Writing #46: 1-1-10 formula

A simple way to succeed in any area of your life is to be consistent with it.

If you show up daily, you will be successful eventually. But staying with something for the long term requires resilience and indomitable will. In today’s world where we are obsessed with speed, it’s difficult to stay committed.

That’s why I believe if a person can stay on his path longer than most people, he will surpass them.

Equation of success

As I read more, I am certain that obsessing over efficiency and speed can sometimes rob us of the joy of the process. And as we lose our joy of pursuing a thing, we grow to hate it. Something which we have to do, just for the sake of it, without our heart being present in it, will result in failure.

Therefore, enjoying the process is critical.

Once you know you love the process, the next thing that matters is consistency.

So, the equation of success becomes

Success = Enjoying the process + Consistency

The 1-1-10 formula

I devised this formula myself. It states that you need to do 1 thing, for 1 hour daily, for 10 years.

We love speed but success is a long-term game.

If you are always looking for a shortcut you will waste time that you could have spent doing the work.

Now, the above formula focuses on consistency. Doing an action daily for 10 years. The timeframe is important here. If we can do a thing daily, for 10 years then it shows we have found our passion too. It also means that you have the mental capacity and the ability to stick with your goals for the long term.

This formula also gives your expectations a longer time horizon. This relaxes us. We can be less anxious while pursuing our goals. If we focus on a shorter time horizon for our goals then we run the risk of being anxious, stressed all the time.

If you have a 10 year period for a goal, then you will see every mountain along the way as a small speed bump.

This formula if applied will give you the ability to trust yourself, your words, your actions. You will be more sure of yourself. Your self-esteem will grow exponentially.

I write daily here on my blog. There is no limit to the word count. I am not focusing on any topic here. I want to build a daily writing habit. This is Day 46 of the Daily Writing Challenge in 2022.
