Daily Writing #26: One thing even more dangerous than failure

Failure is a dreaded monster we hope never crosses our paths. That never happens though. We face it multiple times in our lifetime. Sometimes we overpower it, sometimes it thrashes us to the ground.

Such is life. We can’t avoid it.

But do you know what is one thing even more dangerous than failure itself?

Failing halfheartedly.

Agree?

See, half-baked attempts towards achieving any goal not only result in failure but also rob us of gaining any true insights from it.

We are not able to extract any useful experience from our failure simply because we didn’t give maximum effort. As we didn’t go all in, we have no clue as to why we truly failed.

If we give our best effort and we fail, it teaches us that way didn’t work and we can move on to something else.

Why half measures are dangerous in life?

Simply because if we keep doing that we would be jumping from one thing to another without any lessons learned. If we don’t learn anything from our failures then how will be able to decide what should we do next?

What things should take up our time. We will never be able to decide that clearly.

If you decide to learn painting, then you must go all-in for at least 6 months practicing it daily for hours. If you don’t do an honest effort then after 6 months you would have gained nothing. You will never be able to know why you failed at painting.

Author James Clear says this:

“Failure is most useful when you give your best effort.

If you fail with a lackluster effort, you haven’t learned much. Perhaps you could have succeeded with a proper focus.

But if your best effort fails, you have learned something valuable: this way doesn’t work.”

James Clear

Failing hard will help you realize your glorious purpose in the following two ways:

First, it will help you to move forward in that direction. You will need more time but eventually, you will be successful.

Second, it will help you eliminate this thing from your life if it’s not meant for you and then you can focus on other things.

Do yourself a favor, fail hard, or don’t try.

I write daily here on my blog. There is no limit to the word count. I am not focusing on any topic here. I want to build a daily writing habit. This is Day 26 of the Daily Writing Challenge in 2022.
